VILA BALEIRA RESORT PRESENTS

TUNA ROUTE FESTIVAL

From 3 to 9 June in Porto Santo

Gastronomy, workshops and gatherings, music and dance, fishing and craft arts, photography exhibitions, urban art and humor.

The Autonomous Region of Madeira is currently, in the national panorama, responsible for more than 60% of the total quota of tuna fishing.
The Atlantic waters off the island of Porto Santo are the route of the shoals that traverse the oceans.

The Rota do Tuna Festival, an organization Vila Baleira Resort, is inspired by these two factors and seeks in its first edition to pay tribute to Tuna in its most diverse aspects. Gastronomy, workshops and gatherings, music and dance, fishing and handicrafts, photography exhibitions, urban art and humor.

Chef Lamb

The festival has the gastronomic curatorship of Chef Cordeiro who will lead an armada of national and international chefs who join resident Chef Manuel Santos of Vila Baleira Resort. Already confirmed are Chef Carmine Basile from Italy and Chef José Lopez from Spain, who will be joined by some more established names. Throughout the festival every night will be dedicated to a themed dinner on how to cook tuna in the most varied invited countries that will culminate in a gala dinner with the guidance of Chef Cordeiro and presentation of Madeiran table wines and Madeira Wines - Winemakers - Dina and Juan Teixeira - Justinos and Henriques wines. Festival-goers will also be able to participate in cooking workshops with tasting.

In order to involve the local community in the theme, a gastronomic contest called “A Estrela é o Tuna” was created that invites Portossantenses in general and the restaurant in particular to present their creations with the theme of Tuna.

The workshops and gatherings are supported by the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Fisheries and will address the Tuna theme from various perspectives. From the ecological question to the testimonies of the fishermen. Dance is performed by the group Danças do Mundo in Madeira with various performances during the festival where music will also have a privileged place with the presence of several artists.

The program could not be complete without the art of fishing, so there are plans to visit tuna vessels accompanied by fishermen and the presence of local artisans throughout the event.

With the National Geographic seal of quality, the Pepe Brix photography exhibition that for months followed the lives of tuna fishermen on the Azores coast will be on display at Vila Baleira Resort. Urban art will also have its place with the artist Third to create a mural live that can be followed by everyone during its execution and that will be the future memory of this first edition.

Herman josé

Herman josé

All of this could not be complete without humor, which is why we are pleased to welcome the great Herman José to the festival.

Herman's shows are like fingerprints: no two are alike! At a breakneck pace, the characters from their forty years of artistic life are evoked.

A journey of music and humor with Herman at his best!

The Rota do Tuna Festival is an event promoted by Vila Baleira Resort with the support of the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Fisheries, the Regional Secretariat for Tourism and Culture and the Madeira Promotion Association.

De 3 to 9 June, Porto Santo will be the capital of tuna!
