ENVIRONMENT

Ecology & Local Economy

While ecological concerns should naturally be a priority for tourism enterprises, on Porto Santo—a fragile island that we can enjoy but have an obligation not to harm—this issue takes on even greater importance.

Vila Baleira Resort is proud to operate with solar panels at full capacity. The resort has a total of 1,112 photovoltaic panels, producing an average of 25,800 kW per month, and 135 solar thermal panels for water heating. We hope that, with future technological advancements, we will become self-sufficient, relying solely on this type of energy.

In addition to our environmental commitment, which we share with our guests through the used towel program available in the rooms, we actively participate in waste separation and recycling, as well as beach clean-ups. We also provide portable ashtrays for smokers to help keep the beach clean.

To reduce the resort’s ecological footprint and actively support the local economy, we use products from local fishermen and farmers. In the medium term, we aim to establish a small on-site farm for our own cultivation.

Vila Baleira Resort, aware of the importance of ecological footprint and the economy of Porto Santo, has established partnerships with local farmers to ensure that traditionally grown vegetables and fruits are served at your table during your stay.
